- Hi,
-
- I spent quite a fair amount of time on your character specs last night
- (well, I think that when you were getting up, I was going to bed... :) ), and
- you made a good work... I found some little things which should be added, so
- that we have quite an 'open' file format to allow the game to evolve easily,
- and I currently work on writing it in a good english, so that everybody here
- can understand it...
-
- Well, last night, I was wondering which 'style' we will adopt in BM.
- Shall it be a classical doom-like (_another_ classical doom like...), or will
- we have a hero∩c-fantaisy style, like in Hexen and Heretic ? I just can't
- remind the details of the different scenarii which were proposed... I had the
- idea to use an adaptation of the scenario of Shadowrun, which is a _great_ RPG,
- with a _great_ scenario... This kinda world allows us to mix the different
- styles, so that there can be Mages (Magic appeared again on Earth), Street
- Samurais (doom
- like), and even deckers (who are people with in-brain hi-tech inserts, who can
- connect themselves to the Matrix, which is a Virtual Implementation of the
- Global Village... They can crack corporations' network, penetrate their
- systems, and retrieve interesting information...) The matrix could be
- represented as special levels, with techno textures, and very special enemies,
- which would be the representation of protection programs, tracer programs, and
- so on... What about this ? I think this would be quite easy to mix with
- previously proposed scenarii, what does its authors think about it ? :)
-
- I also thought about the way we should conceive the game commands, and
- I found a way to have a _great_ game, far more fun to play than 'simple' doom
- clones... The idea is based on the use of button combinations, to make more
- powerful attacks, like in arcade fighting games. I made a pre-beta-0.01 version
- of the way the joypad will be used, if this idea fits to your mind, but I want
- to have some feedback from you, to know what you think about the use of button
- combinations. For guns, it won't be used. For swords, and things like this, it
- will allow special attacks, like a beheading (I don't know if it's the good way
- to say it in English... :( What I mean is cutting the enemy's head :) ). The
- must will be for Wizards, who will be able to cast a lot of spells, this way...
- This is also a way to make the game _different_, in a good manner... :) I hope
- you'll be ok, because I would really like this... Please do think about it :)
- I made 'virtual advanced tests' with my joypad, and it seems to work ok this
- way :
-
- The Option button of the joypad is used to toggle the character bar,
- at the bottom of the screen.
-
- The directional cross is used for movement.
-
- Direction + button A : attack while walking, with the wielded object.
- only simple attacks can be made while walking.
- Direction + button B : run
- Direction + button C : sidestep
-
- For sophisticated attacks, the player mustn't touch the cross, during
- the action.
-
- Button A : simple attack with the wielded object
- Button B : used for sophisticated attacks, in combinations
- Button C : used for sophisticated attacks, in combinations
-
-
- I will post a more detailed message about it, if people seems to like
- the idea of sophisticated attacks, used with button combinations...
